Children in the partner school are also invited to water the bush with smileys. Once the school’s flower bank reaches a first threshold, the project invites the students to become story makers. They learn that somewhere out there: - older people are lonely and would love to hear from them - other classes in distant schools are curious about their lives Children create smileys by giving: - written stories about their daily lives, dreams, dragons and roses - drawings and comics that can be scanned or photographed and shared - songs, poems and small performances recorded as audio or video - simple spoken “hello” messages to specific elders or partner classes A smiley is born only when a story or gift of time crosses a boundary and reaches someone else. No story, no smiley.
